Over the last nearly twenty-year period I have worked with a wide range of students in Sumner and Davidson Counties. Sharing the creative process with students is a joy and a passion. Through the years of teaching art in the classroom, I regularly had parents ask where they could find after school art lessons for their child. Outside of summer camps, options in Nashville were few. I knew that creative kids needed additional time for art outside of school in the same way they needed academic tutoring, athletics, or music lessons. Where were the opportunities to create? From this need, the idea for White Brick Art Studio was born. My home studio was designed as a working art space for my personal art as well as a shared creative space. Adults need to create too! The joy of creative expression and exploration is part of the human experience, no matter your artistic background. White Brick Art Studio offers workshops and classes for adults and artists of all skill levels. I strive to create a safe and engaging space for children and adults to create. Small groups allow for shared ideas and a fun group dynamic with time for personalized instruction for each artist. Lessons are designed to be focused, age appropriate, and skill building. Art making is not a cookie cutter process. Techniques and skills will be taught but each student will be encouraged to find their own artistic style, voice, and perspective. Libby Scanlan is a jeweler and received training and a BFA in Metalsmithing from the Appalachian Center for Craft followed later by TN Educator’s Licensure from Tennessee State University. Scanlan began teaching art in 2002 and has nearly twenty years of experience in the art classroom. She has worked in Sumner County and Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools with a wide range of students.
